美国著名诗人、学者,美国艺术科学院院士,教育部海外名师项目专家,普林斯顿大学教授Susan Stewart将于5月26日至28日来访我校,并于28日下午在金沙大讲坛做题为“The Poetry of Encounter”的学术报告,请没有教学任务的教师及英语专业学生按时参加(记入教师培训学分)。

附一 Susan Stewart中文简介

Susan Stewart,美国著名诗人、学者,普林斯顿大学英语教授,美国艺术科学院院士,中国教育部海外名师项目专家,1978年毕业于宾夕法尼亚大学,获博士学位,曾任教于Temple University, 宾夕法尼亚大学和普林斯顿大学。Susan Stewart 共出版诗集6部(被译为多种语言),学术专著6部(其中两部已翻译为中文),并于他人合作翻译多部小说、诗集,同时担任多个著名学术期刊编委。Susan Stewart的研究领域包括Eighteenth –Century Literature, Modernism, 以及Poetry, Poetics and Aesthetics.

Susan Stewart (born 1952), poet and Professor of English (Princeton University), member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an expert of Overseas Distinguished Scholars Program (China Education Council). Graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 1978 with Ph.D, Susan Stewart once taught at Temple University (1978-1997), Johns Hopkins University (Visiting Professor of Poetics, Spring 1997), University of Pennsylvania (Regan Professor in English, 1997-2004), and is now Professor of English at Princeton University (2004-). She also served as Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, (2005-2011).

As a poet, Susan Stewart is the author of several collections of poetry, including

3) The Elements(ELM Press, 2002)

4)The Forest(University of Chicago Press , 1995),

About her work, the poet and critic, Allen Grossman has written, "Stewart has built a poetic syntax capable of conveying an utterly singular account of consciousness, by the light of which it is possible to see the structure of the human world with a new clarity and an unforseen precision, possible only in her presence and by means of her art."

As a critic and professor of English, Stewart’s teaching and research interest covers Eighteenth –Century Literature, Modernism, and Poetry, Poetics and Aesthetics. In addition to journal publication, her books on criticism include:

In addition to creative and academic writing, she has also published translations (mainly but not exclusively poems), and collaborated with painters and composers. Her song cycle, "Songs for Adam," commissioned by the Chicago Symphony with music by the composer James Primosch, had its world premiere with baritone Brian Mulligan and the CSO, Sir Andrew Davis conducting, in October 2009.

As distinguished poet and scholar, Susan Stewart receives numerous honors and awards.
